TPC – BOM plant based products for Dutch retail

On May 29th TPC and BOM hosted an acceleration session on plant based products suitable for (Dutch) retail. Think of meat/milk/egg alternatives (or better called ‘successors’). Speakers from industry Michael Luesink (BOON) and Peter Schouten (Schouten Europe) shared their ‘road to retail’ story. A succesfull meeting with over 60 attendees.

Schouten Europe is one of the first companies specializing in development and production of plant based meat alternatives, introducing these products in Dutch and European retail shelves.

Anneke Ammerlaan is a well-known trend researcher and food watcher. As a culinary journalist and cookbook writer, she was involved in the design of AllerHande. Anneke is editor-in-chief of Tasteful and supports companies in developing new concepts. She experiences how in 2019 supermarkets diligently search for vegetable products and ingredients to distinguish themselves and serve consumers.

Rein Veldhuis shared his experiences as former category manager of Albert Heijn regarding purchasing, choice and strategic policy from retail.

Over 60 attendees attended this meeting, both from The protein cluster members and the network of companies active on this theme from Brabant. TPC members had the chance to introduce their propositions and products. Over 20 different products could be tasted:

  • bakery: quinoa cake (Greenfood50 and Dutch Quinoa group), fresh organic bars (Biobite)
  • drinks: healthy vegan smoothies with flaxseed (startup Boosthie), protein enriched juice (Carezzo)
  • meat successors (Goodbite, Boon, Ruitenberg, It’s Greenish, Vegafit)
